Create a Newsfeed

Build a Newsfeed – Step-by-Step Guide #

This section guides you through creating a new newsfeed by compiling media monitoring articles, selecting content, applying filters, and defining output. You can watch the comprehensive video guide or read the detailed instructions below. For quick navigation, use the table of contents on the right, and click any screenshot to enlarge it. Please note: This guide focuses on compiling newsfeed content, and template design is covered separately.

The “Create Newsfeed” function allows you to build and prepare a new newsfeed for distribution. You can initiate this process either by clicking the main part of the “+ Create New” button in the header (Screenshot: Accessing Create New Button), or by selecting “Create Newsfeed” from its dropdown menu (Screenshot: Dropdown – Select Newsfeed).

The newsfeed creation process is divided into a structured, multi-step workflow, which you navigate using the left-hand menu (Content Management, Output Type, Recipients, Review & Finish). You can move between these steps in two ways: either by clicking the “Next” button at the bottom of the screen, or by selecting a specific step directly in the sidebar. The “Save & Close” button allows you to save your current progress at any time without finalizing the newsfeed — so you can return to your draft later and continue where you left off.

Step 1: Manage Your Newsfeed Content (Content Management) #

This is the initial stage where you define the articles and overall content of your newsfeed (Screenshot: Newsfeed Creation – Content Management Step). In the main area of the “Content Management” screen, you manage the articles that will be included in your newsfeed.

1.1 Name Your Newsfeed: Locate the newsfeed title, typically at the top left of the interface (e.g., “Untitled Newsfeed 14” as shown in the screenshot) (Screenshot: Edit Newsfeed Title). Click the pencil icon next to the title or the title itself to edit and enter a descriptive name for your newsfeed.

1.2 Filter and Select Content: The right sidebar offers extensive filtering options to refine the displayed and potentially addable articles. These filters influence which articles are available for selection or which articles are automatically included in the newsfeed if you define dynamic content rules.

  • Search Filters: Use the search field to look for specific filters you have already defined.
  • My Filters: Under “Choose from your saved filters,” you can apply previously saved filters to quickly narrow down the article selection.
  • Subscriptions: Select which subscriptions should be considered for article selection (default is “All”).
  • Time Period: Filters articles based on their date and time.
    • Date / Time: Here, you can switch between date and time filtering.
    • Predefined Options: Choose from predefined time ranges such as “Anytime,” “Today,” “Last 7 days,” “Last 30 days,” or define a “Custom” period.
  • Search Topics: Filters articles based on predefined search topics (default is “All”).
  • Status: Filter articles based on their read status or processing status: Read, Unread, Shared, Unshared.
  • Labels: Filters articles based on assigned labels (default is “All”).

1.3 Add Articles: Click the “+ Add Articles” button. This will open a window or dialog, allowing you to select articles from your ARGUSintelligence database. You can search for and add articles based on keywords, time periods, or other criteria (Screenshot: Add Articles Dialog: Search View). The added articles will be listed in the table under “Untitled Group [X],” displaying details such as “Article,” “Media Outlet,” “Channel,” “Delivered at,” and “Pages” (Screenshot: Add Articles Dialog: Article List).

1.4 Finalize Article Selection and Order: Once articles are added to the “Manage Article Groups” table, you can perform final adjustments to their inclusion and presentation. To remove unwanted articles, select individual articles by clicking their checkbox, or select all using the checkbox next to the table heading, then click the “Remove” button (located above the table). (Screenshot: Newsfeed Content: Sorting Option) You can adjust the order of articles within the newsfeed. This is important for the presentation of the content. For arranging the articles, you have two distinct methods:

a) Sort by Criteria: Click the “Sorting” button (located above the table) to open the “Sort” modal window (Screenshot: Sort Modal Window). Here, you can select a Sorting Type (e.g., Publication Date, Media Outlet, Channel) and a Sorting Order (e.g., Newest, Oldest, A-Z) to automatically arrange all articles based on your chosen criteria.

b) Manually Reorder (Drag & Drop): Adjust the sequence of articles directly in the table by dragging and dropping them using the drag-handle icon (six dots) located next to each article’s number (Screenshot: Screenshot: Manually Reorder Articles via Drag & Drop)

1.5. View Article Read Status: Use the “Read View” button to get a preview of how the articles will appear in the newsfeed or to indicate the read status of articles for the current user.

1.6. Add a Summary: Click “+ Add Summary” to add an overarching summary or introductory text for your newsfeed. You can type your summary manually. Alternatively, to automatically generate a summary from the articles you’ve added to your newsfeed, utilize the Summary Settings panel on the right sidebar (refer to) to Generate with AI. Once articles are added, you can configure options like Language, Writing Style (e.g., Shorter, Longer), Length (e.g., Short, Medium, Long), and Format (e.g., Paragraph) before clicking “Generate.” This ensures your summary provides concise and relevant context to recipients based on your compiled content.

Step 2: Choose Your Output Type #

In this step, you define how your newsfeed will be consumed by its recipients. You can choose either one or both output types: Reader App or Email (Screenshot: Select Output Type – Reader App).

a) Choose Reader App: Select this option for delivery directly within the ARGUS Spot Reader App, providing an optimized mobile and web experience.

b) Choose Email: Select this for email-based distribution. If you choose “Email,” you will then be able to select from a variety of existing Newsfeed Templates to define the layout and design of your email. These templates can be either pre-configured by ARGUSintelligence or custom-built within the “Newsfeed Template” section (refer to ).

While your newsfeed can be delivered via the Reader App or Email, templates are specifically used for the visual presentation of newsfeeds when sent by email. Here, you will select from already existing templates for your email output. Designing new templates from scratch is covered separately in our Newsfeed Template Design Guide.

Output Settings (Right Sidebar): The right sidebar provides additional settings to customize your newsfeed’s output (refer to), allowing you to adjust the Template Language, toggle Article PDF and Pressreview PDF inclusions, and manage the unsubscribe link for GDPR compliance (Screenshot: Select Output Type – Email with Template Selection and Settings).

Step 3: Define Recipients #

This section allows you to add and manage the specific recipients for your newsfeed.

3.1. Enter Sender Details: Select the “From” Address from a dropdown list. These options are pre-configured during your initial setup of the Sendings Module. This address or descriptive label will appear as the sender of the newsfeed. Provide an email address where replies to the newsfeed should be directed, serving as the Response Address. Finally, enter the Subject line for your newsfeed; this will be visible to recipients in their inbox.

3.2 Add Recipients: To choose recipients, click the “+ Add Recipients” button. You’ll typically select one or more pre-defined Distribution Lists to target your audience. (For detailed instructions on creating and managing Distribution Lists, please refer to the “Distribution Lists” section of the manual.)

Click “Edit To/CC/BCC” to manually adjust how recipients are added (To, Carbon Copy, Blind Carbon Copy).

If you want to remove recipients, simply select them in the table, then click “Remove” to delete them from this specific newsfeed’s recipient list.

Step 4: Review and Finalize #

This final step allows you to review all your newsfeed settings, content, and recipient selections. After a thorough check, you can finalize and schedule the newsfeed for delivery.
